Fire Staff Conduct Rx Fire Training
California-Nevada Offices , June 17, 2005
Print Friendly Version
San Diego NWR Fire staff trained several local San Diego Fire Departments in prescribed burning as well as conducted live fire suppression drills. One of the departments, Chula Vista Fire Department, is an important cooperator for the San Diego NWR since they share borders in a high wildland urban interface. During the three day period the FWS fire staff assisted with class room and field training of approximately 20 firefighters and chief officers from this municiple fire department. The benifits are huge in that this was the first time many of these fire fighters had been on a prescibed fire. This opportunity was used to discussed the purpose and importance of the refuge and how fire is used to improve habitat and reduce hazard fuels. The training proved to be a overwhelming success.
