Journal Entry   Back Mexican Wolf Reintroduction Public Meetings Southwest Region, June 30, 2005 Print Friendly Version The interagency, cooperative Adaptive Management Oversight Committee (AMOC)conducted eight public meetings in Arizona and New Mexico to take comment on the draft Mexican Wolf 5-Year Review on the reintroduction program, five standard operating procedures related to management of the Mexican wolf reintroduction program, and a proposed one year moratorium on new releases of "naive" wolves. The New Mexico meetings were held in Reserve (15 June), Silver City (16 June), Truth or Consequences (17 June), and Albuquerque (18 June). The Arizona meetings were held in Phoenix (28 June), Hon Dah (29 June), Alpine (29 June), and Morenci (30 June). Each meeting lasted 3 hours, and each speaker (depending on number signed up) were given 5-10 minutes to provide oral comments on the three topics or any other subject on Mexican wolf recovery that they chose to discuss. Public input will be used to edit and/or modify the draft 5-Year Review and five Standard Operating Procedures as appropriate. Public comment from these meetings will also be evaluated in terms of going forward with the proposed one year moratorium.
