Wichita Mountains NWR Celebrates Forest and Game Preserve Centennial

On June 4, 2005 the U.S Fish and Wildlife Service celebrated the 100th anniversary of wildlife conservation at the Wichita Mountains National Wildlife Refuge. Fort Sill's Field Artillery Half Section color guard opened the ceremony. Dom Ciconne, Regional Chief of Refuges for Region 2 read the Governors Proclamation. Guest speaker for the event was former USFWS director Lynn Greenwalt. Approximately 24,000 people visited the refuge the week-end of the centennial celebration. Other notable guests in attendance included Lori Jones, Visitor Services, Region 2 and Skeeter Leard artist for the Wichita Mountains Refuge centennial poster.
