Watershed Planning Effort Kickoff Meeting Held
Southwest Region, June 28, 2005
Print Friendly Version
The first stakeholder meeting for the Upper Colorado River Watershed Management and Restoration Plan was held June 28, 2005 in Big Springs, Texas. Freese and Nichols is the consulting firm that, with the backing of the Colorado River Municipal Water District, is putting together the plan with funding provided by the Service. Representatives from agencies including the Corps of Engineers, the Bureau of Reclamation, Natural Resources Conservation Service, U.S. Geological Survey, Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, and Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board discussed actions that would help restore habitat for the Concho water snake and restore the hydrology of the Upper Colorado watershed. A draft report will be circulated for review on September 30, 2005 with a final report in February 2006. The Water District is planning to use the final report as the basis for a Memorandum of Agreement with the Service assuring beneficial actions for the water snake into perpetuity that could allow for delisting of the snake.
