Arlington Field Office hosts 13th Annual Children's Fishing Event
Southwest Region, June 22, 2005
Print Friendly Version
On June 22, 2005, the Arlington Field Office sponsored their 13th Annual Children's Fishing Event. Over 70 children and counselors from the Richardson YMCA attended the event, which was held at Brockdale Park, a Corps of Engineers owned park located adjacent to Lake Lavon. Assistance was provided by 24 adult volunteers and workers from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (Inland Fisheries and Law Enforcement branches), Environmental Protection Agency (Wetlands and Outreach Branches), Corps of Engineers (Park Rangers and Wetlands Regulatory biologists), and the Dallas Woods and Waters Club. Participants were run through a modified Pathway to Fishing event where they learned about fishing regulations, fish and aquatic biology, proper casting technique, the importance of wetlands, and the basics of fishing. Many of the children actually caught a fish (3 or 4 channel catfish caught were over 5 pounds!), and all seemed to have a great time!
