Wallkill River refuge celebrates bog turtle successe

Wallkill River refuge is proud to report a number of bog turtle successes during the past couple of months. First, refuge contractors Evan Castner and Scott Clemons rediscovered a male bog turtle that had not been seen since 2000. Then, Castner also found a bog turtle nest with two eggs. The area, dubbed "fortress Evan," is cordoned off from grazing cattle. A new turtle was also discovered in an area with many turtles on a parcel that lacks long-term protection within the refuge boundary.

The refuge is tracking the movements of the turtles.
