Forest Management - Moosehorn Refuge Style

Andy Weik, Moosehorns new woodcock biologists, has been presenting a number of seminars about successional forest wildlife and managing habitats for woodcock, neotropical songbirds, New England Cottontail and ruffed grouse. On May 4 he spoke to 55 Wagner Foresters from Quebec to Virginia who had come for annual training in Bangor, Me. The Service's publication on a "Landower's Guide to Woodcock Management in the Northeast" was given to all. On May 5th he spoke to a group which was participating in a Forest Certification class at the refuge conducted by Maine Forest Service. On June 9, He presented a seminar on managging early successional habitat for upland gamebirds and neotropical migrants to the Maine Division of the Society of American Foesters and the Maine Chapte of the National Turkey Federation.
