Moosehorn Refuge Anticipates Four Lane Highway
Northeast Region, June 8, 2005
Print Friendly Version
After two public meetings in early June and much public debate, Refuge Manager Kolodnicki and Maine Field Office Biologists Mahaney and McCollough meet with the Federal Highway Authority and Maine DOT to discuss the construction of the New International Bridge in Calais,Me. Although the Draft EA and FONSI were done in 2001, there has been little information since then and the information released at the public meetings indicated a new plan to build within the boundaries of Moosehorn Refuge. The state indicated that they have withdrawn that plan and do not intend to do work within the refuge. The Service asked to be consulted in the event of any changes. There still is strong concern over a four lane highway proposal discussed for the refuge.
