Mora Participates in National Fishing Week Activities
Southwest Region, June 18, 2005
Print Friendly Version
Mora National Fish Hatchery and Technology Center in conjunction with Coyote Creek State Park held it's National Fishing Week event at the park on June 18, 2005. The hatchery stocked 700 rainbow trout averaging 1.5 pounds each for the event. Thirty of the larger fish were tagged with Floy tags and assigned a prize number. Donations of fishing tackle, food, drinks and gift certificates were obtained from businesses in the local area.

The event drew 243 youngsters under 15 and lots of parents. Most participants were from the local area but most of New Mexico was represented. We established a three fish limit for the event and most youngsters had at least one or two. Fourteen of the tags were turned in for prizes. The remaining prizes were raffled off at the end of the day. The State Parks Department gave talks and demonstrations on water safety. NM Game and Fish was scheduled to talk about and demonstrate angling techniques.

This first year event was wildly sucessful and we hope to repeat it in the future.
