Unsung hero trains five in all terrain vehicle safety at Back Bay refuge

Ed Darlington, recently honored with the Unsung Hero Award for his accomplishments at Harrison Lake National Fish Hatchery in Charles City, Va., traveled to Back Bay refuge in Virginia Beach, Va., to train and certify five students in all terrain vehicle safety. Four of the five had never operated an ATV.

All five passed the course, and are now certified ATV operators. The day after their certification, four of the five began patrolling the beach north of the refuge to search for nests of the threatened loggerhead sea turtle. The fifth will operate an ATV in varied resource management activities.
