City of Del Rio, Agencies Meet on Conservation of Devils River Minnow
Southwest Region, June 3, 2005
Print Friendly Version
Biologists with the Austin ES Office and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) met in Del Rio with the Mayor, City Manager and City Attorney on June 3, 2005, to discuss future efforts to conserve Devils River minnow. The City is willing to assist range-wide efforts for conservation of this threatened fish. The fish occurs in San Felipe Creek, which flows through the City of Del Rio providing the municipal water supply, local irrigation, and a multitude of recreational benefits. The City is willing and able to be a major partner in developing a habitat management plan to implement recovery efforts for the species. This plan would complement and tier off of the recovery plan, which has been drafted and has just gone through public comment. TPWD will take the lead on writing the plan and the City will be the major local government supporting the conservation efforts. __________________________________
