Cape May refuge staff and volunteers tag horseshoe crabs along Delaware Bay
Northeast Region, May 26, 2005
Print Friendly Version
During two nights in May, Cape May refuge staff and 15 volunteers caught, tagged and measured 391 horseshoe crabs.

From May to June each year, the crabs come ashore to spawn. The eggs they deposit provide a critical food source for migrating shorebirds such as the red knot. The data collected will help the Maryland Fishery Resources Office monitor the movement and survival of horseshoe crabs in the Delaware Bay.
