Construction begins at Silvio O. Conte refuge's Nulhegan Basin visitor contact station

Construction has just begun on the new Silvio O. Conte National Wildlife Refuge's Nulhegan Basin Division headquarters and visitor contact station. The Brunswick, Vt., facility is scheduled for completion in May 2006. A 700-square-foot exhibit area, conference room, and viewing area on the site of the former Bear Mountain Inn will give refuge visitors a panoramic view of the Nulhegan Basin. Future construction plans include a maintenance and equipment storage building.

Rick Potvin, the refuge's first visitor services manager, arrived for duty on April 17. After refuge staff have moved into the new headquarters, the modular building that has been serving as a temporary office will be converted to housing for seasonal staff, interns, and researchers.
