First Roanoke-Cashie River festival hailed a success
Southeast Region, May 7, 2005
Print Friendly Version
Roanoke River NWR partnered with their next door neighbor, the Roanoke/Cashie River Center, to host the first Roanoke-Cashie River Festival on May 7. The festival included a bird tour, a kayak and canoe tour of the scenic Cashie River and Winston, a live, great-horned, owl from Eastern Wildlife Center. Exhibitors touted their conservation programs, the local YMCA brought their hotdog booth, and the refuge's Friends group promoted their organization. An afternoon treasure hunt attracted and entertained both children and adults, and the River Center offered half-off admission for the day. Attendance totaled 60 people, a great turnout for this rural area of northeastern North Carolina.
