In concert with other community improvements, the restoration will also benefit the vitality, safety, and environment of the Watts Branch community. Other partners include three other district agencies and Washington Parks and People, a non-profit organization dedicated to restoring and enhancing public parks in the district.

In 2003, SHARP completed an assessment of the Watts Branch watershed and a detailed stream assessment for the portion of the Watts Branch located in the district. It found extensive channelization, urbanization, and floodplain loss, and recommended the district undertake stream restoration.

In July 2004, SHARP began work on a full stream restoration design of the upper portion of Watts Branch, a total of 2.2 miles. SHARP completed and presented the design plans in coordination with other district agencies, community groups and federal agencies engaged in restoring the watershed and the Watts Branch community. Design development will continue through fall 2005. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2006.
