Veterans fished alone or in groups with students. This tournament takes place on the medical center grounds each year. The largemouth bass and bluegills caught in the tournament are self-sustaining populations and rainbow trout caught were raised at Genoa NFH and had been planted in the pond a few weeks earlier.

Participants brought their catch to the judging booth were it was weighed and measured by U. S. Fish and Wildlife service employees. After a hard morning of fishing, people enjoyed a fish fry and grill out also prepared by U. S. Fish and Wildlife service employees, VA employees, and local veterans groups.
