Upper Mississippi River Friends Group Sponsors Kids Fishing Day
Midwest Region, May 28, 2005
Print Friendly Version
Friends of the Upper Mississippi Fisheries Offices, a support group for the three U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service fisheries stations located on the Upper Mississippi River, is sponsoring a Kids Fishing Day on the morning of May 28 at the Genoa National Fish Hatchery. The event will be held on site at the hatchery, 3 miles south of Genoa Wisconsin on state Highway 35. The fishing day is an annual spring event started in 2002, which is open to area youth between the ages of 7-12 years. Participants will be sent to four different learning stations, to learn more about fishing techniques, fish habitat, boating safety, and fly tying/jig making. They will then be given an opportunity to try out their new skills in a hatchery pond stocked with 10-14 inch rainbow trout. A light lunch will be served after some recreational fishing time to round out the morning. More information and signup information is available by contacting the hatchery office at 608-689-2605.
