Careers Come Naturally for Sewee Earth Stewards
Southeast Region, March 21, 2005
Print Friendly Version
The Sewee Visitor and Environmental Education Center hosted its 3rd annual ?Careers Come Naturally? event for 540 Sewee Earth Stewards during the week of March 21st. Service employees and their colleagues from the US Forest Service, South Carolina State Park Service and the City of Charleston, talked to students about career opportunities found within each agency. Participating in hands-on activities, the Earth Stewards ?experienced? work assignments for different career positions. Students conducted a waterfowl survey, thinned timber, put out a wildfire, and became interpreters for a day. The Earth Stewards are fifth grade students from Charleston, Berkeley and Georgetown County schools who have been involved in an 8 week conservation program, which integrates ecosystems and habitat management into the school curriculum.
