Multi-agency meeting with Senator Domenici's staff to discuss SW willow flycatcher critical habitat
Southwest Region, April 12, 2005
Print Friendly Version
On April 12, 2005, staff from the Regional Office and Ecological Services Field Office met with representatives from the Bureau of Reclamation, Army Corps of Engineers, and Senator Domenici's office. The designation of critical habitat for the SW willow flycatcher was discussed in the context of ongoing restoration efforts in the Rio Grande Bosque. Restoration includes removal of non-native vegetation and thinning of dense vegetation. The Fish and Wildlife Service presented a synopsis of what designation of critical habitat means in respect to section 7 consultation on restoration projects. The possibility of submitting a Rio Grande Bosque Management Plan during the public comment period, which expires May 31, 2005, will be pursued in order to ensure the protection /restoration/enhancement of SW willow flycatcher habitat and also continue with restoration.
