Southwest Region, April 29, 2005
Print Friendly Version
On April 29, 2005, the Middle Rio Grande Coordinator presented a live Rio Grande Silvery Minnow Exhibit at the Annual Congress of the Bosque Ecosystem Monitoring Program (BEMP). The Annual Congress was held at Bosque School in Albuquerque, New Mexico. BEMP is a long term ecological monitoring program that uses an outreach approach for participants to understand the changing dynamics of the Middle Rio Grande riparian forest. More than 250 students, teachers, and parents attended the Annual Congress. BEMP students presented briefings on their accomplishments involving research and monitoring in the Rio Grande Bosque. Following the presentations, the live Rio Grande Silvery Minnow exhibit was presented to BEMP Annual Congress participants. The Service's Middle Rio Grande Bosque Initiative has funded BEMP for several years. BEMP currently maintains 22 monitoring sites throughout the Rio Grande corridor.
