Iroquois Refuge Open House a Big Success!
Northeast Region, April 23, 2005
Print Friendly Version
About 1,650 people attended the Iroquois NWR OPen House on April 23, 2005. They thoroughly enjoyed family fun activities, live entertainment, conservation-related exhibits and much, much, more. The wet weather did not dampen anyone's spirits or the fun!

Games and activities for kids of all ages included face painting and tattoos, spatter painting, casting animal tracks, making bird mobiles, dissecting owl pellets, and playing a rousing game of WINGO, which is like BINGO with pictures of wild things. Another popular activity was building blue bird or bat houses. More than 90 were built: some were an Eagle Scout project coordinated by Adam Worth of Boy Scout Troop 64 in East Pembroke. Live raptors from the Bird of Prey Center were on display, and interpretive walks were given on pond exploration, wildflowers, as well as general nature walks.

Music by the Ghost Riders and the Corfu-Pembroke Community Band and cultural dances by the Buffalo Creek Dancers entertained everyone. Twenty-one exhibitors or vendors rounded out the event with a bit of something for everyone who attended our successful open house.
