Journal Entry   Back Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge Hosts Youth Turkey Hunt Midwest Region, April 16, 2005 Print Friendly Version A cooperative effort between the Minnesota DNR, the National Turkey Federation, Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge and private landowners provided areas for 20 youth and their volunteer mentors to hunt turkeys within the Lower Minnesota River Valley on the April 16 and 17 during the first 5-day period of the Minnesota turkey hunting season. Five youth and their mentors were permitted to hunt areas closed to turkey hunting within the Louisville Swamp and Wilkie units of the refuge. The hunt is in its second season. Youth hunters are selected through a lottery system. The program has been a tremendous success and very well received.
