Copy Of Arizona Ecological Services Assists in Arizona Envirothon
Southwest Region, April 2, 2005
Print Friendly Version
Staff and a volunteer from Arizona Ecological Services assisted in the planning, execution, and media coverage of the eighth annual Arizona Envirothon. The two-day competition held in Oracle, Arizona, tested 13 student-teams? field skills in wildlife, forestry, soils and land use, agriculture, and aquatic ecology. Teams were then assigned a true-to-life problem-solving exercise on Protecting Cultural Landscapes ? this year's competition theme. Tucson's University High School won the competition, but due to scheduling conflicts, Flagstaff's Sinagua High School team will represent Arizona at the international Canon Envirothon -- the largest environmental competition in North America. AESO partnered with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Arizona Department of Environmental Quality, Salt River Project, Central Arizona Project, Agua Fria ? New River Natural Resource Conservation District, Arizona Farm Bureau, Arizona Game and Fish Department, University of Arizona, and Arizona Department of Water Resources.
