Southwest California Condor Working Group Meeting
Southwest Region, March 29, 2005
Print Friendly Version
Arizona Ecological Services Office staff participated in the annual Southwest California Condor Working Group meeting, held in Flagstaff on March 29. This was the first meeting organized under a new structure, with Arizona Game and Fish Department and Utah Division of Wildlife Resources co-leading the meeting. The group discussed the recent mortality of the wild-hatched condor chick in Grand Canyon National Park, updates on movements and breeding behavior among several condor pairs, nest management protocol, additional feeding sites, law enforcement protocol, lead ammunition, and other management issues. The working group discussed the draft MOU and agreed to move the final review draft through their respective agencies for final review prior to signature. FWS will continue to lead the public information committee, and the team will prepare a protocol for communication among the partners. Participants agreed to work within the FWS-defined process for moving recommendations of the working group forward, through the AESO office to the Regional Director for approval.
