NM Ecological Services provides Environmental Education at A. Montoya Elementary School
Southwest Region, March 30, 2005
Print Friendly Version
On March 30, 2005, NM Ecological Services Field Office staff presented a variety of environmental topics to students of the A. Montoya Elementary School in Tijeras, New Mexico. We discussed the mission of the US Fish and Wildlife Service as well as New Mexico's threatened and endangered species, and plans for their recovery. We used hand-on exercises for the students to experience the concepts of migration and habitat fragmentation. Students also had an opportunity to touch and ask questions about animal skulls, skins and feathers. By providing these educational opportunities, the New Mexico Ecological Services Field Office is encouraging students to think about their environment and wildlife issues.
