SDCP and Upper San Pedro Partnership presented to Verde River Mitigation Group
Southwest Region, March 17, 2005
Print Friendly Version
Fish and Wildlife Service sponsored presentations to the Verde River Mitigation Group by Julia Fonseca, Environmental Program Manager with Pima County, and Holly Richter, Upper San Pedro Project Manager for The Nature Conservancy. Ms Fonseca gave a presentation on the Sonoran Desert Conservation Plan, which is proceeding with an application for an incidental take permit for 55 species in Pima County. Ms. Richter gave a presentation on the Upper San Pedro Partnership, which is addressing water use and the conservation of the San Pedro River. Both efforts bear similarities with the issues that the Upper Verde area is encountering, including urban sprawl and water use pressures. Ms. Richter and Ms. Fonseca expressed the need for sound science to inform the decision making process and the need for broad public involvement. They also provided information on the structure of their planning processes.
