Three Land Acquisitions Add 135 Acres to Wallkill River Refuge
Northeast Region, March 4, 2005
Print Friendly Version
Realty specialist Tom Sampson added two 45-acre parcels to the Wallkill River National Wildlife Refuge in March. The 45-acre Wesloske parcel, a combination of red maple swamps and old fields, provides habitat for migratory birds, expands hunting opportunities and helps complete the northeastern area of the refuge.

The 45-acre Karasic parcel straddles the former railroad right-of-way that bisects the refuge. Dominated by red maple swamps, its habitat will benefit migratory birds. The acquisition of this parcel is part of a larger effort to purchase a block of remaining inholdings and establish one of the refuge's largest contiguous blocks of wildlife habitat.
