Site Visit by Assistant Fire Management Officer
Southwest Region, February 22, 2005
Print Friendly Version
AFMO Rob Wood (Wichita Mountains Refuge) made a site visit to Deep Fork on February 22, 2005 to inspect two areas planned for prescribed burns in March. The prescribed fire plan calls for burning approximately 870 acres of upland prairie, post oak uplands, and bottomland hardwood wetland mix. The burn treatments should help control woody species invading the upland prairie areas, reduce fuel load on the forest floor, and help increase diversity of native plants and wildlife. Staff made the necessary landowner contacts, and completed inholder MOU's. A news release describing the prescribed burn process was issued to local papers on February 23, 2005.
