Southwestern willow flycatcher proposed critical habitat presentation to VWA
Southwest Region, February 17, 2005
Print Friendly Version
At the request of the Verde Watershed Association, Arizona Ecological Services Office biologists Greg Beatty and John Nystedt, and public outreach specialist Jeff Humphrey provided an overview of the proposed critical habitat designation for southwestern willow flycatcher. The presentation focused on the lands proposed in the Verde Valley and potential ramifications for private landowners and water users. Many questions dealt with future uses of private lands, agricultural lands, and transfer of water rights. The presenters clarified what critical habitat designation means, how future land uses may be affected, and the process for commenting. They also requested information from Yavapai County on the locations of developments within the 100-year floodplain. About 70 people attended the informational session.
