Around the state, the field office provided technical assistance to 26 schools this year, and helped 13 schools with projects ranging from small meadow projects to larger forest and wetland plantings. Each project that was completed had lots of student input, including recommendations on how best to naturalize campuses for increased wildlife habitat and water quality. Students wrote grants to fund projects, researched project plots, selected native plants, and planted them according to design. Maintenance guidelines were compiled by teachers, students and maintenance personnel to insure the projects were properly cared for and watered throughout the seasons.

In all, 1,200 students, 192 teachers and parents throughout nine counties in Maryland participated in these projects in 2004.
