Northeast Region Employees Respond to Fire and Hurricane Emergencies
Northeast Region, February 1, 2005
Print Friendly Version
Northeast Region fire management employees provided emergency response in several wildfires and hurricanes in the summer of 2004. Gerald Vickers, fire management specialist, served as safety officer of a Northern Rockies type 2 incident management team dispatched to assist recovery after Hurricane Frances. Vickers also served as a type 1 safety officer trainee on the Fischer Fire Complex in Washington and to aid recovery after Hurricane Ivan.

Mike Durfee, Central Zone fire management officer, worked in Alaska on two division supervisor assignments that were later converted to assignments as field observer, fire behavior analyst trainee, and task force leader. Joe Krish, fire management officer at Blackwater refuge, served on two helibase manager assignments in the Northwest and Southwest. Regional Wildlands/Urban Interface and Rural Fire Assistance Coordinator Steve Hubner participated as contracting officer's technical representative in the recovery after Hurricane Ivan.

Thanks to the help of Rick Vollick, North Zone fire management officer, the region also mobilized two 3-person engine crews to Ruby Lake refuge in Nevada on security details. Bob Harris, fire management specialist, was detailed to Boise, Idaho, as support dispatcher for the Dollar Fire.
