Caddo Lake Environmental Flow Conference
Southwest Region, December 2, 2004
Print Friendly Version
On December 2, 2004, Tom Cloud, Supervisor of the Arlington Ecological Services attended the Caddo Lake Environmental Flow Orientation Conference in Jefferson, Texas. This conference which was sponsored by the Caddo Lake Institute and U.S. National Ramsar Committee was intended to bring scientists from a variety of Federal and State agencies, conservation groups, and other organizations together to begin to identify information and processes to sustain the environmental flow needs of Caddo Lake, Texas' only RAMSAR wetland. A collaborative purpose of the conference was to discuss eco-tourism and educational opportunities at Caddo Lake which could also be applied by RAMSAR partners in Mexico which were in attendance at the conference. Information developed at the conference will be assimilated and used by scientists at a Flow Recommendations Workshop currently scheduled for April 2005. This effort is being led by The Nature Conservancy's Ecologically Sustainable Water Management Program which has successfully applied the concensus methodology for environmental flows on the Savannah River and Green River in the eastern United States. Texas A&M University will also play a major role in the process through compilation of existing data, studies, and other resource materials for Caddo Lake and the Cypress Basin Watershed.
