Clear Creek Gambusia Genetic Study Completed
Southwest Region, November 20, 2004
Print Friendly Version
A study, Genetic Status of the Clear Creek Gambusia, was completed by Dr. Anthony Echelle, Oklahoma State Universtiy. The project was designed to provide the information required to develop a management plan for a future captive propagation efforts. This endangered fish occurs in only one small location (spring site less than 12 acres) on private property, and having a captive stock is an important recovery task for the species (identified in approved recovery plan). The species is under constant threat from potential hybridization with the western mosquitofish and possible habitat loss if spring flows decline.
