KENAI: Two Anchorage Men Sentenced for Bear Poaching Violations
Alaska Region, November 10, 2004
Print Friendly Version
After months of investigation and legal proceedings, two Anchorage men received sentences from a plea agreement that addressed multiple misdemeanor and felony charges stemming from bear poaching in Southcentral Alaska. The case involved illegal activities both on and off Kenai National Wildlife Refuge over a several year period. Charging documents accused the two men of snaring and killing black and brown bears out of season and removing only the gall bladders for sale on the black market. The final settlement in the case includes for both men a $1,000 fine, $600 restitution (one defendant only), forfeiture of rifles, 90-days home confinement with an ankle bracelet, five year ban from any Refuge or National Forest land, lifetime loss of hunting and fishing privileges, and five years of probation.
