Kemp's Ridley Sea Turtle
Southwest Region, October 26, 2004
Print Friendly Version
The Corpus Christi Ecological Services Field Office organized and participated in the annual Kemp's Ridley Working Group meeting that was held in Brownsville, Texas, on October 26, 2004. The binational Working Group meeting is held each year in the fall to provide an opportunity for the many partners working on the nesting beaches in Tamaulipas and Texas to discuss results of nest & egg protection, hatchling releases, female turtle identification, satellite tracking, sea turtle strandings, and the results of a number of research activities. The meeting is an important forum to present proposed activities for the coming year, especially to those agencies in Mexico that will be responsible for reviewing and issuing permits to American project workers and researchers. Subsequent to the Working Group meeting, the Kemp's Ridley Recovery Team (RT) met from October 27 ? 29, 2004. The primary focus of this RT meeting was to further refine the threats analysis portion of the recovery plan revisions. This RT meeting was also important for the introduction of several new team members from Mexico and a discussion of changes in organization within Mexico's federal agencies that share responsibilities for sea turtles.
