Nationwide Land Trust Rally Tours Trustom Pond National Wildlife Refuge
Northeast Region, October 29, 2004
Print Friendly Version
The Rhode Island National Wildlife Refuge Complex hosted a field trip for attendees of the National Land Trust Rally on October 29. More than 40 individuals representing land conservancies from across the country participated in a field tour of the Trustom Pond Refuge.

The tour focused on native grassland establishment and management, as well as the importance of such communities to declining populations of grassland-dependent birds. The refuge provided a unique backdrop for the tour because its network of fields, when combined with neighboring private agricultural lands managed cooperatively under a conservation easement, total 175 acres.

Participants left with a better understanding of grassland management and of the assistance the Service can offer in establishing and maintaining these communities.
