Congressman Releases Bald Eagle
Mountain-Prairie Region, November 4, 2004
Print Friendly Version
The North Dakota Field Office (Ecological Services) and Dakota Zoo teamed up to release a rehabilitated bald eagle on Nov. 4, 2004 near the Missouri River in Bismarck. The eagle had been taken to the zoo for treatment after being injured in a summer hailstorm. U.S. Rep. Earl Pomeroy did the actual releasing of the bird in front of an audience of television, radio and newspaper reporters. The Service helped fund the zoo's raptor rehabilitation facilities a couple of years ago, and the zoo regularly informs the Service whenever a bird is ready for release. The releases always draw media attention, and give the Service a chance to talk about eagle recovery, the Endangered Species Act, habitat and other issues.
