Journal Entry   Back WICHITA MOUNTAINS NWR HOSTS 34TH ANNUAL BISON AUCTION Southwest Region, October 29, 2004 Print Friendly Version October 28, 2004 was the date for the 34th Annual Bison Auction at the Wichita Mountains National Wildlife Refuge. The Refuge sold 129 animals this year, and attendance was good. The auction is considered one of the ?must-see? events in Oklahoma, drawing buyers and watchers from across the United States. Some local and area schools turn out for field trips to observe animal (and human) behavior, and teachers also use the sales information to create math curricula for students. The Lawton Chamber of Commerce and Industry provides complementary coffee and donuts during the morning, and offers a lunchtime burger plate with all the extra fixings for $5.00. The total in sales for the Bison Auction was $43915.00.
