FY 04 Fire Management Accomplishments at Turnbull NWR
Pacific Region, September 30, 2004
Print Friendly Version
Turnbull refuge staff used prescribed fire on 1316 acres of forested lands, wetlands, and invasive species to assist in reaching management objectives. The regional prescibed fire module crew assisted in these acres plus and additional 1752 acres within the region.

Five hundred and forty acres of Hazardous Fuel Reduction (HFR) projects, thinning and piling, were accomplished this year on the refuge. Eighty nine acres was done by refuge staff with the remaining 451 acres completed by contractors.

The refuge had five wildfires that we suppressed for a total of two acres. Of these fires, three were caused by lightening and two were caused by humans.

Refuge staff also assisted other federal agencies in suppressing 17 fires for 822,000 acres, we also help out the State of Washington with 2 fires for 284 acres and Spokane County with 6 fires for 218 acres. This would be a total of 25 fires for 822,502 acres.
