9th Annual Grays Harbor Shorebird Festival Celebrates Spring Migration of Shorebirds
Pacific Region, April 30, 2004
Print Friendly Version
Each spring, hundreds of thousands of shorebirds stop to rest and feed on the mudflats in the Grays Harbor estuary on their migration northward. This huge concentration of birds offers people a great chance to view a number of shorebird species and learn more about the natural and cultural history of the area. People from around the world come to view this event of hemispheric importance. The three-day long Grays Harbor Shorebird Festival works to bring people together with this incredible natural phenomenon.

The festival offers something for everyone. There are field trips with expert guides to local birding hotspots; lectures on shorebird identification, conservation, and natural history; exhibits; wildlife vendors; a shorebird fun fair and poster contest for local school children; a banquet and an auction. A new addition for 2004 was the auction. Items were donated by local businesses and all money raised in the auction helped fund the other festival events.
