Service Participates in Dedication of New Whooping Crane Exhibit
Southeast Region, September 22, 2004
Print Friendly Version
Gloria Bell, Chief of Endangered Species for the SE Region, attended a dedication ceremony to open a new whooping crane exhibit at the Audubon Zoo in New Orleans, LA on Wednesday, September 22. The Service helped support funding for the new exhibit and whooping crane pens. The press conference took place during the annual meeting of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. The Governor of Louisiana's America's Wetlands Campaign highlighted the importance of wetland habitat to whooping crane and other species. The "Estuarians"; the mascots for America's Wetlands Campaign, include a brown pelican, bald eagle, alligator and dolphin. In addition, for those of you who remember Mr. Bill from Saturday Night Live, the campaign has asked him to educate the public about the loss of Louisiana's wetlands and the importance of restoration efforts.
