New York Governor Helps Lamar Fishery Center Release Atlantic Sturgeon Into Hudson River
Northeast Region, September 29, 2004
Print Friendly Version
Eighty-five Atlantic sturgeon have been released by the Northeast Fishery Center into the Hudson River near Haverstraw, N.Y. The sturgeon were reared from the egg stage at the Service's fishery center, located in Lamar, Pa. Governor George Pataki, New York Dept. of Environmental Conservation officials and over 100 onlookers joined Service personnel from the Lamar facility to mark the event.

The six to eleven-year-old fish are part of an experimental release of sturgeon in the Hudson River. By studying the released fish, Service and state biologists will learn more about Atlantic sturgeon movements and migrations. Over 100 sturgeon from Lamar were released earlier in the year as part of the same program.
