Discovery of New Hine's Emerald Dragonfly Sites in Missouri
Midwest Region, September 7, 2004
Print Friendly Version
Since the initial discovery of a single Hine's emerald dragonfly site in Missouri in 1999, the Columbia Missouri Ecological Services Field Office has been actively involved in coordinating and funding surveys for this species throughout the Missouri Ozarks. Surveys for adults and larvae have led to the discovery of 18 new sites scattered across eight Missouri counties. Surveys conducted during fiscal year 2004 have been the second most productive year to date, with the discovery of six new sites and one new county record. Missouri now provides habitat for the second largest number of sites within the species? current range if Illinois, Michigan, Missouri and Wisconsin.
