Blue Goose Festival Kicks Off Sept 25 in Northwestern Minnesota
Midwest Region, September 25, 2004
Print Friendly Version
Detroit Lakes Wetland Management District, Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge, and Hamden Slough NWR, will be kicking off National Wildlife Refuge Week a little early in 2004. There are a week's worth of events scheduled in the Detroit Lakes area starting with the DLWMD "Blue Goose Festival" on the September 25, and finishing with the Tamarac NWR Fall Festival the following Saturday on October 2.

The theme of this year's Blue Goose Festival is "Migratory Birds" and features a speaker from the Raptor Center who will be accompanied by four "assistants" including a bald eagle. There will be a myriad of activities for both young and old alike.

Additional events, held during the week of September 27, will include programs at Becker County schools; displays of student wildlife artworks and projects at the Washington Square Mall, local schools, and elsewhere in the community; a showing of "Winged Migration" in Detroit Lakes; and numerous birding trips to Hamden Slough NWR, Tamarac NWR, and various Waterfowl Production Areas of the Detroit Lakes Wetland Management District.
