First Biological Opinion for Topeka Shiners in Minnesota Yields Positive Results
Midwest Region, July 30, 2004
Print Friendly Version
The Twin Cities Field Office (TCFO) has completed the first Biological Opinion (BO) for Topeka shiners in Minnesota. On-the-ground coordination with Nobles County engineers and their contractors resulted in an opinion allowing road improvements to go forward while providing protection for the Topeka shiner. This process gave the County engineer a better understanding of Endangered Species Act requirements and the Biological Opinion, resulting in timely identification of modified project activities and subsequent reinitiation of consultation by the Federal Highways Administration. In addition, on-site coordination during project construction provided TCFO staff with information that will be used to refine proposed construction guidelines in the future.
