Cache River NWR hosts 2nd Annual Youth Fishing Derby

The staff at Cache River NWR held its annual youth fishing derby on June 12, 2004. Approximately 94 children, aged 12 and under, along with their parents, participated in the event. This year's event drew more than twice as many kids as last year's event. The event was held on a large pond stocked with catchable size channel catfish. Door prizes went to every child who attended. Local businesses donated the prizes, food, and refreshments for the event. The participants enjoyed the event tremendously; many caught their very first fish ever! With continued support from the local community the event will continue to grow year after year.
