Birthday Party Tour at the Iron River Fish Hatchery
Midwest Region, June 25, 2004
Print Friendly Version
Usually when you think of all the things to do on your birthday, going to your local fish hatchery doesn?t make the list, but for one soon-to-be six year old it sounded like fun. So his mother contacted the Iron River National Fish Hatchery, Iron River, Wis., to arrange a tour for all of the party goers. The party consisted of about a dozen kids ranging in age from 2 to 7 accompanied by two adults. The kids had fun learning about the life cycle of Lake and Brook trout, and the every day activities of a cold water fish hatchery. They also hand fed a tank of fish, colored pictures, and were able to handle live fingerling Lake and Brook trout. The hatchery is open to the public for self guided tours from 7:30AM to dusk every day of the year. Guided tours and demonstrations for large and small groups of all kinds can be arranged, upon request, at almost any time of the year.
