Sewee Visitor and Environmental Education Center Celebrates National Fishing Week
Southeast Region, June 12, 2004
Print Friendly Version
Beaming with excitement and joy, little Maria Fernanda approached the Fish Art tent, clutching the catfish with both hands. No fish tale here?the fish was almost as long as Maria was tall! The catfish was still moving, so she decided to paint a flounder to print onto her t-shirt. Maria was one of 106 children who spent the morning fishing in the Sewee pond. Rods and reels, tackle boxes and ?Reel? Kids t-shirts were prizes awarded for the most fish and largest fish by weight. Wesley Gwinn won the Grand Prize with a 4.5 lb catfish, and took home a Shakespeare rod and reel, loaded tackle box and t-shirt. The Francis Marion National Forest sponsors the annual Kid's Fishing Rodeo at the Sewee Center. Supporting Partners for the event include the US Fish and Wildlife Service, Walmart, Sampit Bassmasters, Georgetown Seafood and Carolina Seafood.
