Earthday Activities Educate Homeowners

Wells, Main, April 2004 - Staff and volunteers from Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge helped educate the public on wildland fire during Earth Day festivities at the Wells Reserve this last April. Rachel Carson NWR was one of more than 25 conservation groups, businesses, schools, and other organizations that had displays and information available. Refuge Fire Management Officer Bob Harris and several other staff and volunteers manned the Service display, promoting wildland fire safety, handing out Firewise materials, and displaying Firewise videos. Information on the history and importance of the Refuge was also made available.

The Wells Reserve includes portions of Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge. Together, the reserve and refuge function to further the knowledge and understanding of estuaries throughout the community.
