Winners Chosen for Virginia Division of Federal Junior Duck Stamp Contest
Northeast Region, March 27, 2004
Print Friendly Version
On March 27, the Eastern Shore of Virginia National Wildlife Refuge hosted the Virginia division of the Federal Junior Duck Stamp competition. There were 437 pieces of art submitted from students throughout the state and representing 87 schools and 120 teachers. The artwork was spread fairly evenly between the four age categories of kindergarten through third grade, fourth through sixth grade, seventh through ninth grade, and tenth through twelfth grade.

The judges chose a colored pencil rendition of a pair of wood ducks for the Best in Show award. The artist was 17-year old Seyeon Nam from Lake Braddock Secondary School in Burke, Virginia.

Three local artists, the refuge biologist and a former refuge public use specialist judged the entires. Winners in each category will receive an assortment of art supplies and a savings bond. The prizes are funded through the sale of the Federal Junior Duck Stamp. The top 25 artists in each category will receive rosette ribbons. All participants will receive certificates of appreciation.
